"I loved boot camp. The location and time were so convenient for me. Exercising prior to heading into work started my day in the right direction and made me feel great the whole day. "

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bay Area Boot Camp Trains Ocean Rower for Pacific Crossing
Roz Savage Prepares Body and Mind for 6,000-mile Solo Voyage

Palo Alto, CA/April 9, 2007 – In 2006, Roz Savage made history as the first woman to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Instead of basking in the glory of this achievement, Savage decided she wanted to up the ante and attempt a 6,000-mile crossing of the Pacific Ocean in 2007 – but not before undergoing intensive training with Bay Area Boot Camp in April.

Following her successful Atlantic voyage, Savage trained with Bay Area Boot Camp and became a quick fan of its total body fitness regimen, which she described as “personal training in a group environment.”

“It seemed like I’d used up my entire allowance of willpower and determination in getting myself across the Atlantic. I just couldn’t find the motivation to train, and the pounds were piling on,” Savage said, “Bay Area Boot Camp was my salvation.”

Planning to launch her three-stage Pacific row from San Francisco on July 8, Savage is repeating her training with Bay Area Boot Camp to prepare for what promises to be a challenge even tougher than her Atlantic venture.

“I learned a lot on the Atlantic about how not to row an ocean. I succeeded, but psychologically I gave myself a much tougher time than I needed to. I think I’ve learned the lessons, and I want to put them to the test.”

For Savage, one of those lessons includes working her body into top physical condition before setting out to sea, “Three days into the camp, and my thighs are suffering. So it must be doing me good!”

“It gets the day off to the right kind of start,” Savage added, “and it’s fun to train with other women. We’re a varied bunch of all shapes and sizes, but we can take it at our own pace so everybody gets a good workout. The camaraderie and mutual support are really helping this prodigal rower stay on track.”

The coaches at Bay Area Boot Camp consider it a privilege to have Savage participate in their program and will provide her with nutritional supplements throughout her Pacific voyage.

“Roz amazes me,” said Bay Area Boot Camp co-founder and CEO Heather Glenn, “She’s the kind of woman all of us look up to, and we’re thrilled to be able to support her adventures. We’re going to make sure she’s in fantastic shape by the time she shoves off.”

“I believe that if you don’t keep pushing the boundaries, keep expanding your comfort zone, your comfort zone actually gets smaller and smaller, until you’re shrink-wrapped in such a tiny comfort zone that you can’t move,” Savage said, “And so I keep pushing, keep developing, keep evolving.”

Catching up with Roz Savage

Roz Savage is currently docked in Woodside, training with Bay Area Boot Camp in Palo Alto until April 27. On May 1, she takes off to the U.K. for more speaking engagements and fundraising. Her website, http://www.rozsavage.com, includes a full calendar, a biography, and detailed logs of her ocean adventures.
